The UPBEAT team
UPBEAT is an EU project coordinated by SINTEF Manufacturing. The project involves seven partners with high competence in industry and research, spanning three countries: Norway, Sweden, and France. The partners include SINTEF Manufacturing, SINTEF AS, Aerobase, GKN Aerospace, RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), IKT Jules Verne, and PHIMECA Engineering. More information about each partner’s contributions to the project can be found at the bottom of the page.
Aerobase
Aerobase is a Swedish company based in Luleå and Trollhättan specializing in FE simulations and material modeling. They offer advanced material models for manufacturing processes and complex in-service loading. Their flagship products include Phases, a library for predicting microstructure during thermo-mechanical processing, and SafeLight, a library for material failure prediction. Aerobase will be developing digital tools for process optimization, advanced material models, and tools for scanning path optimization and defect rectification. They will also perform component-level optimization.

GKN Aerospace
GNK Aerospace Sweden is a prominent subsidairy of the GKN Aerospace, specializing in advanced aerospace components, particulary within propulsion systems and airframe structure. The company is committed to sustainability and innovation.

IRT Jules Vernes
IRT Jules Verne is a mutualized industrial research centre dedicated to manufacturing. Working closely with production equipment manufacturers and integrators, IRT Jules Verne caters to 4 strategic industrial sectors: aeronautics, shipbuilding, the automotive industry, and renewable marine energy. Its vocation is to improve the competitiveness of strategic industrial sectors in France by creating disruptive technologies for manufacturing processes.

PHIMECA the responsible engineering
Phimeca is specialized engineering service company that supports its clients in system design, providing software for monitoring and maintenance, improving reliability in their operations, and datascience and physical-based modeling of processes.

RISE Research Institutes
Rise is Sweden’s top research and innovation partner, connecting academia with industry for sustainable advances. With interdisciplinary collaborations, RISE brings academic research to industry applications and stays at the forefront of global innovation. Results are exploited through journals and at conferences.

SINTEF Manufacturing
SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research organizations, is a key partner in GEAR-UP, specializing in additive manufacturing, vision systems, robotics, and materials technology. SINTEF’s infrastructure includes state-of-the-art equipment for additive manufacturing, CNC machining, and materials testing, providing comprehensive support for the project’s development and innovation.
